Ellipsis has written and edited a variety of healthcare technology content for ECRI Institute, an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to benefit patient care by promoting the highest standards of safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness in healthcare.

“Get Hip: An Introduction to Total Hip Replacement Surgery and
Hip Implant Designs”

Ellipsis was contracted by ECRI Institute to develop articles for the Hip Replacement Technology series published in Health Devices journal (described below). We researched the topics, identified and contacted external reviewers, wrote the content, and managed the drafts through the technical review process. This first article in the series serves as an introduction to total hip replacement (THR) surgery and is aimed at nonsurgical hospital personnel. The article is a useful reference for staff and administrators involved in the purchase or management of hip implants—it provides the information they need to make informed decisions that will support the highest quality patient care in the most cost-effective manner possible. The article was published in the November 2011 edition of Health Devices (pp. 374–386).

“Joint Understanding: What You Need to Know about Hip Implant
 Designs,
Materials, and Fixation”
This second article in the Hip Replacement Technology series details the factors that differentiate the various kinds of hip implants that are available. The article was published in the January 2012 edition of Health Devices (pp. 12–20).

“Hip Checks: Five Steps for Reducing Expenditures on Hip Implants and
Other Physician Preference Items”
This third article in the Hip Replacement Technology series describes strategies that hospital administrators, operating room managers, value analysis teams, and supply chain personnel can use to improve the purchasing process for hip implants and other physician preference items. The strategies described will help healthcare facilities improve the bottom line while maintaining quality of care. The article was published in the March 2012 edition of Health Devices (pp. 74–88).

Health Devices Journal

Ellipsis has substantively edited several articles for the journal, and two Ellipsis editors previously served as Executive Editor while on ECRI’s staff.
